Aachen University Hospital gains new medical director

Aachen. Professor Joachim Windolf will become Medical Director and Chairman of the Board of the University Hospital RWTH Aachen on January 1, 2025. He will then replace Professor Thomas Ittel, who has been Medical Director since 2011 and will retire at the end of 2024.

Windolf is currently director of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. He studied medicine in Frankfurt and specializes in accident and hand surgery. From Frankfurt, Windolf went to the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, where he was deputy director of the department for accident and reconstructive surgery. In 2005 he moved to the University Hospital Düsseldorf. From 2008 to 2016 he was dean of the city’s medical faculty.

His clinical and scientific focus is on the care of polytrauma patients, as well as pelvic, spine and hand surgeries.

In 2018, Windolf was President of the German Society for Trauma Surgery and Vice President of the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery. (eat)
