Berlin. Anyone who works full-time or voluntarily for the common good must be better protected against attacks. Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) wants to reform two provisions of the criminal code to this end. The dpa news agency reported this on Friday with reference to a preliminary report by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
The draft contains two specific additions to the Criminal Code, according to the Federal Ministry of Justice. An adjustment is planned to the paragraph defining the principles of sentencing. In future, the assessment should also take into account whether the “effects of the act are likely to have a more than negligible impact on an activity that serves the common good”.
There are also plans to reform the paragraph prohibiting resistance to law enforcement officers. In future, a “sneak attack” will also be considered a particularly serious case of resistance and punishable by a minimum prison sentence of six months and a maximum of five years.
The adjustment aims to ensure that not only police officers and bailiffs, but also firefighters, rescue teams and emergency doctors are better protected. The changes also include volunteers who work for the common good. (dpa)
