Wittenberg The heads of government in East Germany call for corrections to the hospital reform planned by the federal government. The previous project threatens to massively encroach on the planning sovereignty of states in sparsely populated areas, the State Chancellery of Saxony-Anhalt announced today, following discussions between Prime Ministers and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).

The Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, Reiner Haseloff (CDU), highlighted that in the eastern federal states a clear process of transformation and concentration had already taken place in the hospital scene after German unification. These special circumstances must be taken into account within the scope of hospital reform. To continue providing good medical care in the future, there must be exceptions.

Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) emphasized that the remaining issues of the planned reform would be resolved cooperatively by the federal and state governments. In his opinion, given the structural adjustments that have already occurred in East Germany, this is not a question of location—these are, as far as he can judge, certain.

Much has been accomplished in rebuilding the East over the past three decades, Haseloff explained. Now it’s about preserving what we’ve achieved and building on it. Safe healthcare is also crucial to the election.

The Prime Minister’s Conference East (MPK-East) also addressed the area of nursing. Relief on the expense side and strengthening of nursing care insurance revenues are said to be important here. However, no concrete measures were initially presented. © aha/dpa/aerzteblatt.de
