However, if you pay attention to healthy and well-groomed feet, you not only promote well-being, but also do something for your back and joints.

Walking barefoot regularly is a relief for stressed feet. Constantly running around in shoes causes the muscles to atrophy and the arch of the foot to lose support. The result is flat, hollow or open feet. If something goes wrong with the feet, the entire body is affected. Back or shoulder problems can also be caused by the foot area. High heels, for example, can cause muscle shortening in the lower leg. In addition, the toes are often tightly pressed together. The painful result is hammertoes or upper legs, which occur due to the dislocation of the toe joints and are often accompanied by inflammation. However, if you don’t want to do without pumps, you should change your shoes frequently and wear flat models whenever possible. The sole should be flexible so that the foot can roll freely. Heel pads and cushioned soles absorb shocks, which protects the spine. Breathable materials ensure an ideal foot climate, so that sweaty feet don’t stand a chance.

Healthy feet attract attention, especially in summer. Now you should carefully inspect your toenails. If they are discolored, thick, dull or brittle, you should definitely ask your dermatologist to clarify whether it is a widespread nail fungus. This does not cure itself, but it must be treated.

Proper foot care starts with daily washing. It is best to use a mild soap, used sparingly. Otherwise, the skin will dry out too much and crack easily. After washing, dry your feet and the spaces between your toes thoroughly to prevent athlete’s foot. Foot baths with added herbs ensure relaxation and get tired feet working again. Anything that stimulates the metabolism and blood circulation, such as rosemary, juniper oil or sea salt, but also massages and contrast showers, will beautify the legs and feet. A foot bath is therefore the basis of every pedicure. After the bath, the skin will be particularly soft. Calluses can now be easily removed with a special file or pumice stone. Important: it is better to remove too little than too much, otherwise the calluses will grow back stronger. The skin is then particularly receptive to fluids and lotions that promote fat loss, moisturize and soften the skin. Gentle pressure promotes well-being. Special foot creams are even more effective because they not only cool, but also contain deodorizing ingredients. A must in summer, at the beach and at the sea: apply sunscreen to the sensitive soles of the feet. Healthy feet also include healthy nails. The nails should be trimmed with nail clippers every three to four weeks. It is important that the nails are cut relatively straight and the corners are gently rounded with a file. The nails look particularly elegant and perfectly groomed when polished to a high gloss. To do this, the nails are first processed with a chamois pad or a special polishing file and then rubbed with nail oil. Always apply a base coat before painting the nails to avoid unsightly discoloration of the nails.

Regularly checking and caring for your feet is good for you and at the same time protects you from diseases. Proper foot care is particularly important for diabetics, and not just in the summer.
