Munich – Bavarian Minister of Health and Care Judith Gerlach (CSU) is pushing for the fastest possible financial reform of healthcare.

“The financial situation of nursing care insurance is apparently getting worse. It is high time for the federal government to begin the long-awaited structural and financial reform of nursing care insurance”, Gerlach emphasized today on the occasion of reports that the financial situation of nursing care insurance is more dramatic than expected.

Short-term emergency solutions, like the recently passed Caregiving Support and Relief Act, are no longer enough, Gerlach said. She also highlighted that the federal government announced its report on the sustainable financing of long-term care insurance for the end of May, but nothing has been presented so far.

What is particularly worthy of criticism is that nursing care insurance and therefore taxpayers continue to be burdened with financing non-insurance expenses. To secure long-term funding, the federal government must finally make good on its announcement in the coalition agreement and fund non-insurance benefits from federal funds, Gerlach said. “The states have also recently made this demand to the federal government on the initiative of Bavaria – unfortunately so far without success.” © aha/aerzteblatt.de
