The “Since U Been Gone” singer debuted her wispy, eyelash-skimming bangs on The Kelly Clarkson Show in November, after years of rocking long waves. Clarkson’s piecey bangs feature longer, face-framing layers at the edges, which give the singer a flirty, slightly Bardot-esque look when she styles her hair in a messy topknot, as she did on New Year’s Eve.

Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock back in 2020, and after a years-long legal battle, she is more than ready for a fresh start. In addition to the bangs, she is coming into her single era with a new home in New York City and a new album, Chemistry, written about her painful split. “I cannot express how appreciative I feel for having that kind of healthy outlet,” Clarkson told People, referring to the new album. “Because the level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving is extraordinarily hard. You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming.” She described releasing the album as a way of “taking my power back.”
