Intense sunlight, mixed with chlorine, salt water, sand and wind, damages the hair structure or leaves it extremely stressed and requires special care. Unlike skin, which reacts quickly to irritation, hair damage only becomes apparent days or weeks later.

Hair loses its natural protective film, dries out, becomes brittle or dull and loses its shine. Because salt water and the sun destroy the protective layer of your hair and damage it. Furthermore, due to high stress, the scalp produces more sebum and the hair becomes more oily.

But the vitality and health of your hair can be maintained by taking some measures. A head covering, especially for fine or already damaged hair, not only protects against heatstroke, but also against damaged hair. Gels with UV protection that combine styling and care or special sun protection sprays that protect hair from intense sunlight are recommended.

After each swim in the sea, harmful salt must be thoroughly rinsed from the hair with plenty of fresh water, as well as sunscreen shampoo and warm water. In addition, a conditioner or treatment is mandatory after a day at the beach to restore moisture to the hair and maintain its resistance and elasticity. However, hot water should not be used to wash your hair. The hotter the water, the more the hair flakes stand up and the hair becomes dull. Cold water adds shine to the hair because it closes the hair cuticle. Then pamper your hair at least once a week with a sunscreen, hair mask or moisturizer. You should also be careful when styling and drying. Excessive heat from a dryer dries hair quickly and makes it brittle.

Specific hair care is just as important in summer as regular skin care with sunscreen cream and post-après lotion. Especially in the summer months, the skin becomes drier, rough, cracked and scaly, it starts to itch and sometimes even inflammation occurs.

Proper skin care is very important after sunbathing. A long bath cools the skin and cleanses it of irritating salt and sand residues. A shower gel with moisturizing and nourishing additives is recommended. Soap damages the skin’s acid mantle and also dries it out. Regular exfoliation leaves the skin free of flakes. The skin should then be completely pampered with moisture and oil. Emulsions with natural vegetable oils such as olive oil, avocado oil and almond oil are suitable for this. They are rich in lecithin, minerals and vitamins and have the advantage of also naturally supporting the reconstruction of the skin’s protective film. Care products with vitamin A also help with skin regeneration, vitamin C neutralizes free radicals and enhances the effect of vitamin E, which slows down the skin aging process. Provitamin B 5 is highly moisture-reducing and also promotes skin regeneration and hyaluronic acid is an essential component of connective tissue. It is used as a humectant in skin care products and protects the skin from drying out.
