The quest for gold, silver and bronze at the Paris Olympics and for the best finishes in the medal table continues. Germany has already collected seven gold medals. Two of them on Monday: for them 3×3 Basketball Players and the Mixed Triathlon Relay. In addition, Noah Hegge beat Bronde in the kayak cross and the women beat Bronde in the track cycling team sprint, so that at the end of the day there were four new medals for Germany.

Around 10,500 athletes from 206 countries are expected in Paris to fight for gold, silver and bronze in 32 sports in 329 finals.. Fans everywhere are eagerly watching to see how their homeland stars perform and who comes out on top in the medal table. However, at the last Summer Olympics, the German team’s results were not so encouraging.

At the Tokyo 2021 Games, which were postponed by a year due to the corona pandemic, athletes from the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) won ten gold, eleven silver and 16 bronze medals.

This was the worst medal tally at a Summer Olympics since reunification. A total of 37 medals, exactly four fewer than Germany’s worst performance since 1990: in Beijing in 2008, the German team took home 41 medals, including 16 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze.

The United States of America team leads the all-time medal table at the Summer Olympics by a wide margin. At the 29 Summer Olympics between 1896 in Athens and 2021 in Tokyo, U.S. athletes have won 2,646 medals, of which 1,065 were gold. Germany, among which all the medals have been won as the German Empire (1896–1936), West Germany and the Saarland (both 1952), the German national team (1956–1964), the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR (1968–1988) and the united Federal Republic of Germany (since 1992), combined, comes in third. Russia’s medal haul includes the Soviet Union (1952–1988), the Commonwealth of Independent States (1992), Russia (1996–2016) and the Russian Olympic Committee (in 2021 Russia was officially excluded from the IOC, only a few athletes were allowed to start in Tokyo).
