Paper is gone, online banking is standard: 8 in 10 adults mainly use a PC, laptop or smartphone to transfer money or check their account balance, according to a representative survey by the Federal Association of German Banks in February 2024. Another result: Most respondents use online banking today as certainly true.
A good feeling is one thing, but how safe is online banking really? To get to the bottom of this issue, we analyzed the procedures of 18 large banks and savings banks. Credit institutions essentially use four: AppTan, BestSign, ChipTan and PhotoTan. With AppTan a smartphone is required, otherwise an additional device.
