- Juice cartons recalled over fears the straws are contaminated with metal
- FSA warns the straws are unsafe and contaminated batches should be returned
Popular children’s juice drinks are being urgently recalled because their straws may be contaminated with metal.
Eight different products — including two Calypso branded items — are affected. All the others are ASDA’s own multi-pack juices of apple and orange flavours.
Refresco Beverages UK Limited said the possible contamination made them unsafe for kids to drink.
Officials at the Food Standards Agency (FSA), which republished the manufacturer’s alert, urged parents not to let their children ‘use them’.

Customers who have bought the products are urged to return them to an ASDA store where a full refund will be given.
No receipt is needed to return the potentially contaminated items.
ADSA said no other products are known to be affected at this time.
The supermarket and Refresco Beverages UK Limited issued a point-of sale notice explaining why the products are being recalled and what to do for those who have bought it.

The FSA issues recalls, which ask customers to return products, when problems are spotted that means a product should not be sold.
It explained that the juice drinks are all being recalled because ‘the straws may be contaminated with metal, making them unsafe’.
The recall does not specify what metal the straws are thought to be contaminated with. Nor did it explain how it happened.
But heavy metals including lead and mercury can all potentially be toxic to humans.
