Saarbrücken – Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) says he continues to assume that the new hospital reform can come into force on January 1, 2025.
“Today is a good day for Saarland hospitals, but also for reform,” he said at the state press conference in Saarbrücken. He had already met for talks with Prime Minister Anke Rehlinger (SPD) and Health Minister Magnus Jung (SPD).
Lauterbach agreed with Jung that they “made a lot of progress” and reached a consensus on two important points: the use of the transformation fund and the way in which specialized clinics receive better conditions for their work. He did not elaborate, saying the discussions were confidential.
Jung was pleased to be able to present Saarland’s positions once again in the final debate on reform. The objective is to guarantee higher quality patient care and less bureaucracy, but also to guarantee less economic pressure and better facilities in hospitals.
In Lauterbach’s opinion, the new regulations in Saarland “will find fertile ground”. Because they would work best in federal states where they had already committed to active hospital planning and left nothing to chance.
