Guben – Brandenburg Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) has promised support for the Guben hospital due to its insolvency. “The Guben hospital must be preserved,” said Woidke.

“We will closely support the hospital during this difficult phase and will do everything we can to ensure good healthcare in the Brandenburg area in the future.”

Brandenburg’s Health Minister Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) had already signaled her support. She sees a future for the hospital in Guben. “We see the location in the hospital plan of the state of Brandenburg in the future,” she said.

“In recent years, the country has created the basis for sustainable care priorities through targeted planning in orthopedics, pain management and gastroenterology. This is now the basis for the planned restructuring in Guben.”

The Naëmi Wilke Guben Foundation recently announced that it has applied to the Cottbus district court for a self-administration process to restructure the building in preparation for the hospital renovation.

According to the Ministry of Health, after the Spremberg clinic, the Guben monastery is the second hospital to use the protective shield procedure instrument to renew and develop a future concept.

According to the ruling, the procedure has no impact on ongoing hospital operations. Patients would continue to receive regular care and wages and salaries would be covered by the insolvency money.

Nonnemacher sees many hospitals in Germany facing a financial wall because operating costs are rising due to inflation and fees and revenues are falling. He is calling for financial security from the federal government and further development of outpatient and inpatient health centers.

Health politician Ronny Kretschmer (left) warned that without financial help, one clinic after another in Brandenburg would fall into difficulties.

Many hospitals in Brandenburg are currently in the red. Due to the deficits, the districts also contribute millions of euros as sponsors. According to the Ministry of Health, there are 54 hospitals in 66 locations in Brandenburg. In 1990 there were 73 hospitals. © dpa/aerzteblatt.de
