Finding the best liquid blush for your skin type, tone, and beauty taste can be life-changing. In fact, I love liquid blush so much that it got me to ditch powder products completely and lean into the dewy lifestyle. Now I embrace my shine with liquid highlighter and lightweight tinted moisturizer.

I’m not alone in considering liquid blush trend to be a beauty game changer—it’s taken over BeautyTok too. Just one scroll through your FYP and you’re bound to see at least one clip chronicling the now viral glazed blush trend, “sunburnt” blush look, or “W blush” hack.

Clearly, blush sticks, gels, and liquids have become prized products. But what sets liquid blush apart from creams and powders in the first place?

The best liquid blush, at a glance

Liquid blush vs. cream and powder blush

“Liquid blush is a thinner consistency blush than cream, and an alternative to powder blush,” celebrity makeup artist Natalie Dresher tells Glamour. What’s more, she adds, is contrary to popular belief, liquid blush can and does work for most skin types (and I say this as someone who is super oily).

“Liquid blush adds instant glow, and dew to the skin,” Dresher explains. “They’re great for drier and more mature skin types as well as a first layer to blush for oilier skin or for makeup that will hold all day.”

It’s also airy, the lightweight liquid blends and tends to build effortlessly for a soft flush of color that is long-lasting, adds Rare Beauty global stylist Cynthia Di Meo, (which explains why Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush is as popular as it is).

How to apply liquid blush

Liquid blush application slightly differs from its powder counterparts. “I like to dot liquid blush,” says Dresher. “But only once! It’s usually very pigmented. Then, blend out with the brush or sponge I used for foundation.”

Di Meo says the same. “I like to start with one dot, blend on the apple of the cheek up at an angle towards the top of the ear, and add more if desired,” she says. “It’s mistake-proof, and it layers beautifully over liquid and powder formulas without disturbing makeup.”

Di Meo also recommends applying undereye concealer after blush application. “This way, you can use it to soften your blush if you want to soften the look,” she says.

Now that you’re an expert in all things liquid blush, let’s get to the fun part. Ahead, see Glamour editors’ and makeup artists’ favorite liquid blush picks. You’ll be ready for FYP close-up in no time.
