First it was Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé, then Mr. and Mrs. Bieber. Now, Ariana Grande and her beau Ethan Slater are showing just how different standards can be when it comes to how men and women dress up (or down) for a night out.
The pair—who met while filming the upcoming Wicked movies while Slater was still married—recently grabbed dinner with the pop star’s dad and another friend, and they didn’t exactly get the same memo re: dress code. Grande looked every inch the fashion girlie in a little black dress, sheer tights, black pumps, diamond earrings, and a fuzzy bucket hat, while carrying a satin Chanel handbag. The fur cuffs on the sleeves of her cardigan match her hat; someone put effort into this look!
Slater, who is currently starring in the Broadway revival of Spamalot, also wore head-to-toe black…but his look is more athleisure than aspirational: a North Face zip-up fleece jacket, plus Nike workout pants and sneakers. You can see the photos on Page Six, which reports that the group dined at an Italian restaurant before catching Slater on stage.
Online, comments ranged from praise for Grande and excitement about her upcoming new album to…well, some pretty mean insults directed at Slater. But at least a few people, very fairly, pointed out that they simply do not look dressed for the same event.
