Tip: If you use the health insurer’s app, you can apply for child sickness benefit quickly and easily with just a few clicks.

Step 1. The pediatrician provides the “medical certificate to receive sickness benefit in case of the child’s illness”, also popularly known as the “child’s illness certificate”. The doctor fills in the front. He must indicate “yes” that “the disease requires care and supervision”.

Step 2. The back of the certificate is the fund’s “sickness benefit request”. Enter your address and bank details. If, according to your employment contract, your employer will not pay you anything if you care for your child at home (continued payment of salary), tick “No right to continued payment of salary” – otherwise select “Right to …” and enter the number of days. Likewise, whether you are a single parent or not. If the fund has already paid child sickness benefit in the current year, indicate the number of days of illness of the child in question. Therefore, it is best to create an overview of sick days. Finally, sign the application, make a copy of the certificate for the employer and mail it to the cash register.

Step 3. Immediately inform your boss about your absence (disease notification). A copy of the certificate must also be available to you no later than the working day following the third day of illness – just the front with a doctor’s certificate. He will contact your cash register and send you your proof of income. If both forms are available, the health insurer will transfer the money to the specified account.

Tip: If you don’t work on weekends, you don’t need a certificate on those days. Advantage: you receive a normal salary and not reduced sick pay. Ask the doctor for several notes (by Friday and again from Monday) if your child is sick for a long period of time.
