Solar cells are popular because they produce electricity cheaply and quietly and are easy to install on many roofs. One disadvantage: when it gets dark, the power source dries up. Expensive electricity then flows from the public grid to power the home. The solution could be a battery storage system: it absorbs excess electricity from photovoltaic modules during the day and releases it again in the afternoon and evening.

An energy storage device is a battery that can be easily charged and discharged very frequently. Currently, these batteries mainly consist of lithium-ion storage cells – similar to the batteries in cell phones or electric cars.
