Claudia Daimer does the so-called “breathing walk” several times a week Breathing exercises and meditation. Always with you: your cell phone. “When I go for a walk, I do exercises and breathing movements to open and mobilize the chest. Through this breathing walk I can increase my lung volume again, which has decreased over the years, in addition to maintaining my mobility. my well-being, reduces stress and “I sleep better”, explains the 51-year-old.

She monitors her body with her smartphone. Because Claudia Daimer practices biohacking. She started doing this ten years ago after suffering from a thyroid disorder. She persisted because she realized it was good for her. Over the years, more and more methods have been added.

Biohacking: Making the most of your body and mind

Biohacking is a type of self-optimization through scientific and technological approaches. Quality of life should be increased and life prolonged through nutrition, exercise and mental state. For Claudia Daimer, biohacking is a term that everyone can define for themselves. “It’s easy for me to have a healthy lifestyle and also measure, understand and optimize everything.”

Pulse, energy level, stress and relaxation. She keeps an eye on all these values on her cell phone. When you wake up in the morning, your stress level is around 33%, a normal value. Prices change throughout the day depending on the activity. One goal is to be as relaxed as possible at night so you can sleep well.

Claudia Daimer wants to stay as healthy and fit as possible through biohacking and thus stop aging. “My big personal goal in life is to live to be 120,” she explains. “But I don’t just age, I also stay healthy. In other words, I can still be active at 120.”

Can biohacking really stop aging?

But is this realistic? Markus Gosch heads geriatrics at the Nuremberg Clinic and is president of the German Geriatrics Society – an expert on aging. He believes it makes sense to combine several methods to stay fit and healthy: for example, plenty of exercise, a healthy diet and enough sleep. This would allow you to gain many years of life. If you start early enough, you can statistically extend your life by ten years just through a healthy diet.

But: “We must always be clear: we have to take many measures and hope that they work, but in the end we have no guarantee,” said the chief doctor. These measures only increase the likelihood of healthy aging. In individual cases, it could always happen differently. Around 25% of the human aging process is genetically determined, in addition to factors such as environmental pollution, noise and, of course, the twists and turns of fate. But none of this is a reason not to take care of your health in a timely manner, according to the doctor. It’s important to integrate the various building blocks into your everyday life so that you enjoy them and can maintain them for years to come.

Stay healthy by measuring your body

After the breathing walk, Claudia Daimer measures her pulse and stress again. A stress level of 25 percent. This is significantly lower than in the morning, so the breathing walk had an effect. She also pays a lot of attention at night. She eats early so her sleep isn’t disturbed by digestion later. Food choice is important – lots of vegetables, few carbohydrates.

What is fundamental for them is the supply of all nutrients, including through dietary supplements. “My fridge looks more like a pharmacy cabinet. It contains liquid things like vitamin D, iodine and vitamin A. But also sauerkraut, kefir and lots of vegetables.” There are also several boxes with various pills and pills. She takes around 30 medications throughout the day – although they are not always the same. “Right now I have a little less. But there could be 40 different medicines.”

She doesn’t find biohacking strenuous. “It developed little by little,” she says. “It was always small steps. And that’s what I would recommend to everyone, always take small steps and first do what is most advantageous for you.”
