There is currently a gold rush atmosphere in the photovoltaic market. Demand is high and waiting lists are long. This attracts increasingly dubious suppliers. Companies try to make a quick buck with upfront payment models or want to sell ready-to-use photovoltaic systems – without sufficient planning and without keeping an eye on the condition of the roof. In addition, there are sometimes dubious advertising promises. The result: the number of complaints to consumer advice centers has increased significantly.

We show a case where massive roof damage occurred after a solar PV system was installed by a regional and seemingly reputable company, and name six warning signs that homeowners can use to recognize dubious suppliers.
