Leipzig. The groundbreaking ceremony for a large new building was held at St. Georg Hospital in Leipzig on Friday. The construction project is one of the largest new hospital buildings in Saxony and is being financed by the Free State with more than 100 million euros, the hospital announced on Friday in Leipzig. According to previous information from the hospital, the total costs of the new building are around almost 158 ​​million euros.

“With the new construction of the central building of the St. Georg Clinic, we are not only creating modern and sustainable structures, but also setting a clear example for healthcare in Saxony,” said Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping (SPD). “This investment is an important step towards meeting the high demands on medical care and sustainably improving conditions for patients and staff.”

With pediatric emergency room and cardiac catheterization laboratory

The new building will have six floors and a total area of ​​39,000 square meters. The largest and most modern emergency room in Saxony, with an attached children’s emergency room and a cardiac catheterization laboratory, will be located on the ground floor. In addition to an intensive care and monitoring ward with a chest pain and stroke unit with more than 90 beds, new cardiology and neurology areas as well as the oncology center would be created on the upper floors. The center for child and adolescent medicine with postnatal care is being expanded to 60 beds. The children’s dialysis will be directly linked to this.
