Dortmund. Germany reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship with a 2-0 victory over Denmark. The international press saw a good DFB team with weaknesses.
It’s done. The German national football team has reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship on home soil. On Saturday night, Germany beat Denmark 2-0 (0-0) in Dortmund and now awaits the winner of the game between Spain and Georgia.
Kai Havertz (53rd, handball penalty) and Jamal Musiala (68th) scored for the German Football Association (DFB) team in front of 62,000 spectators. The game had to be interrupted for 25 minutes at the end of the first half due to a storm. During the game, the focus was always on referee Michael Oliver. The Englishman and the video assistant (VAR) played a decisive role in the outcome of the game – at least that is how some international media see it. The press comments on Germany’s victory over Denmark.

Germany against Denmark: “VAR wins”
“La Repubblica”: “A sublime Germany that has several paths to victory in its repertoire and perhaps has not yet shown them all. Even though 42 seconds passed between the waves of water and the shots, a dry clip from one VAR to the other could have changed the history of the game. In a way, this was also a spectacle, pumping even more emotions into the veins of the ecstatic audience in an exciting game.
“Corriere della Sera”: “There are many winners. Germany wins and advances to the next stage, despite suffering against Denmark. VAR wins, determining the result with four interventions. And the tornado wins, which ensures the game is stopped in the 36th minute as a storm of rain and lightning descends on Dortmund.

Firstly, he stands in front of the fans and can be celebrated as the goalscorer who gave Denmark a 1-0 lead over Germany. But then, a few moments and two VAR decisions later, Andersen is the tragic hero who gave the Germans the lead. Because his own goal didn’t count – and shortly afterwards he took a penalty.”
